EMKAO Foods: Celebrating 8 Years of Chocolate, Community, and Culture

At EMKAO Foods, every milestone is a celebration of chocolate, community, and sustainability. In 2025, we proudly marked our 8th anniversary, reflecting on our journey from our family farm in Cameroon to becoming Canada’s only vertically integrated cocoa manufacturer.

Our 8th Anniversary Celebration

To thank our customers for eight incredible years of support, we launched an Anniversary Sale, offering 15% off all cocoa products. From POKAO cocoa powder to CHOKAO dark chocolate chips, the celebration gave our community the chance to enjoy their favorites at a special price while joining us in commemorating our growth.

Spotlight: Upcoming Chocolate Festival

We’re excited to share that EMKAO Foods will be an exposant at the Northwest Chocolate Festival next month. It’s one of the world’s premier chocolate gatherings — bringing together makers, farmers, and chocolate lovers to celebrate innovation and sustainability. We look forward to showcasing our single-origin cocoa products and connecting with global chocolate enthusiasts.

Cameroon’s 2025/2026 Cocoa Harvest Season

Cameroon’s 2025/2026 cocoa season officially began in August, with the main harvest running from October to February. This marks a crucial period for our farmers and our supply chain.

Looking back, the recently ended 2024/2025 season was historic:

  • Record production of 309,518 tons, a new benchmark for Cameroon.
  • Highest-ever prices for farmers, ensuring stronger livelihoods.
  • Record growth in local cocoa processing, strengthening the industry’s resilience.

These milestones reinforce why EMKAO is proud to be part of Cameroon’s cocoa story — from farming families to chocolate lovers worldwide.

Driving Growth: Cocoa Processor Expansion

Another highlight is the expansion of a major cocoa processor that we are directly working on. This development will further strengthen local capacity, improve efficiency, and create new opportunities for Cameroonian cocoa in both domestic and global markets.

Showcasing Chocolate at the Victoria Film Festival

In October, EMKAO Foods participated in the Victoria Film Festival at Crystal Garden. It was an inspiring opportunity to connect culture with chocolate — bringing together storytelling and our single-origin cocoa products. Guests discovered how every cacao bean carries its own story of heritage, care, and flavor.

Connecting Talent at the WorkBC Job Fair

Earlier this fall, EMKAO joined the WorkBC Job Fair in Vancouver alongside other food industry leaders. We connected with skilled individuals interested in careers in manufacturing and food production, highlighting our commitment not only to chocolate but also to creating meaningful opportunities within our community.

Meeting Our Community at the New West Farmers Market

Throughout the season, we were proud to be part of the New West Farmers Market at Tipperary Park. Week after week, families and local supporters stopped by our booth to sample NIKAO cocoa nibs, learn about BUKAO cocoa butter, and discover the versatility of our cocoa powders. These market days became a highlight of our community engagement.

Customer Love: Farah’s Review on NIKAO Cocoa Nibs

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do. One of our favorite highlights came from Farah Nazarali, who left a 5-star review for our NIKAO | Cocoa Nibs (Order #1206):

“Delicious! The quality of the nibs are amazing! You can tell as soon as you open up the bag, the fragrance of the nibs is so incredible. Highly recommended for chocolate lovers and those with a discerning taste for the highest quality.”

Her kind words remind us why we’re committed to producing cocoa products that stand out for their purity, aroma, and ethical sourcing.

Sustainability at the Core: HUSKAO Cocoa Husks

Sustainability continues to drive our innovation. With HUSKAO cocoa husks, we transformed what is often discarded into refreshing teas and fizzy beverages. By upcycling every part of the cacao bean, we reduced waste and created unique, antioxidant-rich products for customers to enjoy.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

At EMKAO Foods, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) are at the heart of everything we do. Our journey starts with smallholder farmers in Cameroon, where we ensure fair pricing and transparent sourcing that empower farming families and strengthen local communities. By investing in training, creating opportunities for women in cocoa farming, and promoting equitable partnerships, we’re working to build a cocoa supply chain where everyone benefits.

Here in Canada, our involvement in events like the WorkBC Job Fair reflects our dedication to inclusive employment opportunities. We’re committed to fostering a workplace where diverse perspectives are valued, equity is prioritized, and every team member feels included in our mission of sustainable, bean-to-bar chocolate.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

From celebrating our 8th anniversary, to sharing chocolate at the Victoria Film Festival, to connecting with talent at the WorkBC Job Fair and engaging directly at the New West Farmers Market, 2025 has been filled with milestones.

We’re grateful to our community for supporting EMKAO Foods and for joining us on this journey of bean-to-bar transparency, sustainability, and flavor.
